Last Saturday Knicks Forward Amar’e Stoudemire got in to an arguement with a fan on twitter resutling in Amar’e direct messaging the fan and using a homophobic slur in the message. It took Stoudemire a few hours to retract his remarks due to being on a flight, but once off the plane and mulling over what he said Amar’e apologized to the fan. Later the the fan and Amar’e buried the hatchet and moved on. The exchange started on June 23rd, and now on June 26th after verifying the direct message was authentic the NBA has decided to fine Stoudemire $50,000. This is all in part with the league’s policy of detering homophobic slurs in the sport.
