The Toronto Raptors have reached a verbal agreement with New York Knicks restricted free agent Landry Fields.  The deal is reportedly a 3-year contract approaching $20 million with a spike in salary in the third year.  He can’t sign until July 11; the first day players can sign new contracts.  The Knicks have three days to decide on whether or not they want to match the offer.  The move hurts the Knicks ability to offer Fields as a sign-and-trade piece in an attempt to acquire Nash and pay him a larger salary.

Fields went from a relatively unknown player and second round pick, to then rising and showing great production with the Knicks.  His game then fell off significantly which most people attribute to the acquisition of Carmelo Anthony.  The Raptors hope his game will be reinvigorated in the new environment and with the possible signing of Steve Nash who they also have high on their radar.
