Taylor Gang’s first lady Lola Monroe knows that when Monday rolls around, it’s time for her to get her work week started. That’s the philosophy behind “Monroe Mondays.” The female rapper, through her BlueRose Entertainment, has consistently dropped new music every Monday over the last few weeks to keep herself hot this summer. “What I’ve been doing is dropping either an original record or a freestyle or some type of song on ‘Monroe Mondays’ until [my] tape drops,” Lola told thesource.com in an exclusive interview. “I think it’s important to do that, to feed your fans. They really go hard for me. I’m in the studio every single day.”

This week, Lola is adding a visual element to Monroe Mondays, with the release of her new video, where the femcee spits over Pusha T.’s “Exodus 23:1” track. Explaining why she chose that song, Lola says “I love the beat. I love beats like that. Like [that one] and ‘Stay Schemin’. It pulls out a different type of emotion. I love music that has a meaning behind it. That’s the type of music that I love writing.”

Lola says that the Exodus track allowed her to get personal on the song, as she prepares to drop her still untitled upcoming mixtape later this summer. “What really means the most to me is that I can pull from my experiences and what’s real to me,” she says of the writing process. “That beat pulled the emotion out of me and it basically allows me to tell my story….I’m a girl that came from humble beginnings, the first female rapper to make it big out of the city of DC and turn herself into a business.” Happy Monday.
