Adrian Peterson Misses Eric Dickerson’s Record, Passes 2,000 Yards On The Year

A year removed from his initial torn MCL, Adrian Peterson falls just 9 yards short of an elusive rushing record.

On this day one year ago Adrian Peterson tore his ACL, fast forward to now and he has eclipsed the 2,000 yard mark on the year. Adrian Peterson has become the 7th player ever to rush for 2,000 yards and joins the company of OJ Simpson, Eric Dickerson, Barry Sanders, Terrell Davis, Jamal Lewis, and Chris Johnson.

Two other story lines filled the day for the Vikings, win and make the playoffs, and the wait to see if Adrian Peterson would break Eric Dickerson’s single season rushing record. The Vikings would go on to make the playoffs defeating the Packers 37-34, but Peterson would fall 9 yards short of the record.

In 1984 Eric Dickerson set the single season rushing record with 2,105 yards, and today that record still stands. Adrian Peterson finished his spectacular year with 2,096 yards. What makes this even more special is what i stated above, Peterson tore his ACL last year. Expect Adrian Peterson to come away with the comeback player of the year alongside Peyton Manning, and look out for the MVP race to come down to those two as well.
