Fresh out the pages of The Source Magazine, our 2011 Unsigned Hype Macklemore is breaking through the charts. Selling 1.1 million copies, “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis has been certified platinum. Scaling higher up the Billboard charts, their album is placed at number 46, and has put a stamp of 42 million views on just Youtube alone. If the saying is “from rags to riches”, Macklemore has reversed it in a sense. In such a short time, Macklemore has managed to grab listeners attention across the country by rapping about various topics from same sex preferences, to switching it up and rapping about corky fun thrift shop finds. As Macklemore says, “ONE MANS TRASH IS ANOTHER MANS COME UP” – he’s making his way to the top faster than any come up selling 22,000 copies in just one short week. If these are thrift store dreams, someone give me the address.
