Texas Chainsaw

2012 ended on a high note for Hollywood with a slew of huge releases to wrap up the year. In traditional January fashion, 2013 takes a slow start in the theaters releasing a couple films but nothing high caliber. With “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”, “Django Unchained”, and “Les Miserables” all still bringing in big numbers its no surprise that studios are letting those ride out before putting out another big project.

If you haven’t gotten tired of watching clueless teens getting slashed by a disfigured maniac then “Texas Chainsaw 3D”, another sequel to the drawn out franchise comes out this weekend. Switching up things just a little this installment takes place right after where the original 1974 film ends.  The slasher sequel follows a group of friends looking into a mysterious inheritance left for the lead character. One thing that should be entertaining is Trey Songz facing off against the legendary Leatherface and likely getting cut up.

If blood and guts doesn’t sit well with you then the only other alternative for the weekend is “A Dark Truth” an action thriller project that shows the events of an ex-CIA operative attempting to expose a company’s cover-up of a massacre in a South American village. Andy Garcia, Forest Whitaker, and Eva Longoria all star in this political drama.

I wouldn’t expect either to push huge numbers this weekend and you always feel weary when a movie doesn’t open up for early screenings.  If you haven’t checked out Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” I definitely suggest taking the time to check it out if none of the new releases appeal to you.
