Bringing you another classic this week, we look at quite possibly the most critically praised film in the Hip Hop community.  Certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 96%, collecting a batch of awards and year-end accolades, and boasting performances by Cuba Gooding, Jr, Laurence Fishburne, Ice Cube, Morris Chestnut, Nia Long, and Angela Bassett, I’m obviously I’m talking about “Boyz n the Hood.”

“Boyz n the Hood” delves into the lives of childhood friends growing up in the ghetto of Los Angeles.  A project such as this is a once in a lifetime accomplishment and has left its mark in not only the Hip Hop community, but in the film industry as well. The director, John Singleton, earned himself an Academy Award nomination for Best Director, making him the youngest and first African American to be nominated in the category.  The United States Library of Congress called this film “culturally significant” and placed it in the National Film Registry.

If you haven’t yet witnessed “Boyz n the Hood,” just stay under the rock you live in.
