“Pat Summerall is the voice of football and always will be”

Yesterday we lost one of the great voices in sports when Pat Summerall passed away at 82 years old (1930-2013). Summerall prior to his Hall Of Fame broadcasting career was an NFL player himself, a place kicker to be exact.

For close to 50 years of broadcasting Summerall covered numerous sports including some of the biggest competitions. Summerall has a résumé that reads; 16 Super Bowls, 20 U.S. Opens (Tennis), and 27 Masters while working for CBS, FOX, and ESPN.

For 22 years Summerall called games with John Madden on FOX and CBS, and now his long time partner John Madden opens up about the passing of Pat Summerall.

Pat was my broadcasting partner for a long time, but more than that he was my friend for all of these years. We never had one argument, and that was because of Pat. He was a great broadcaster and a great man. He always had a joke. Pat never complained and we never had an unhappy moment. He was something very special. Pat Summerall is the voice of football and always will be.
