The Special One will move on

The 50-year old manager will be leaving the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of this season the club has said today. The President of the club, Florentino Perez had this to say

“We’ve decided to bring our relationship to an end at the end of the current season, the club and manager agree the timing is right to bring our relationship to an end. On behalf of the board of directors I would like to thank Jose Mourinho for all his hard work. The team have improved in his three years, and we wish him all the best. It was the right moment.”

Since Mourinho joined Madrid the club won the La Liga title for the first time since 2008, they reached the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2003, and they won the Copa del Rey title for the first time since 1993.

Right now the speculation is that Jose Mourinho will return to Stamford Bridge for the Chelsea job, Chelsea’s current manager Rafael Benitez’s interim stint as coach is done at the end of the season as well. For a replacement Paris Saint-Germain’s manager Carlo Ancelotti is the lead candidate.
