Nike x Yeezy
Nike’s partnership with the Chi’s very own Kanye West marked the first collaborative effort the company made outside of sports. In 2009, they came together with Kanye spearheading a team of Nike designers for the Yeezy I’s. Putting a chokehold on the game, the Yeezy II’s were released in 2012. Directly following the debut, the shoe’s stock climbed immensely. Selling at $225-$250 at retail price, the sneaker-heads and resellers held the Yeezy’s at a glorified pedestal. The settled resale value to date is somewhere around $2,700. Nike 2, competition 0. Back in early 2012, Kanye also took to Twitter to discuss his deal with Nike. He is allowed one design every two years, so we can expect the Yeezy III’s sometime in 2014.
