Cops from Queens’ Warrant Squad bore T-shirts with a very shocking quote from one of America’s literary icons. Referencing the type of police work that these particular types of officers conduct on a daily basis, the back of the shirt that has an NYPD shield on the front read:
“There is no hunting like the hunting of man, and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never cared for anything else thereafter.”
Someone who had an opportunity to catch the pic, reportedly stated that they had badges on their necks and the front of the shirt read, “Fugitive Enforcement NYPD”. The officers who wore the shirts were bringing a woman into the Queens Courthouse on a misdemeanor charge.
Graham Rayman, a writer at The Village Voice, recalls, “In 1996, members of the Street Crime Unit, a plainclothes task force roamed neighborhoods looking for guns, had T-Shirts made with the same quote. In 1999, members of the Street Crime Unit shot an unarmed Guinean immigrant named Amadou Diallo 41 times and killed him.”
As the wise old man in Menace II Society said, “The hunt is on! And you’re the prey!”
