1982’s Thriller album was a classic, by no means an underdog, it lived and surpassed all of its expectations. Thriller sold 45 million copies, with millions flying off the shelves with each passing week following its debut. The 13 minute music video for the song of the same name was MTV’s first world premiere video. The video is undoubtedly one of a kind and a trailblazer for future music videos. John Landis co-wrote the script along with Jackson, its prodigious merging of filmmaking and music had audiences marveling at new and refreshing visuals. The Guinness World Records lists it as the “most successful music video”, selling over 9 million copies. It’s hard enough for artists to put together cohesive visuals in today’s age much less sell 9 million copies of their music video. Simply legendary.
