Police were alerted on the morning of June 20, about a shooting in the Maplewood Apartments in the 1900 Block of South Jones, Winnfield.  Upon arriving at the crime scene police found 18 year old Ross shot more than twice in the torso.

Lt. Charles Curry told reporters that the shooting stemmed from an argument between Holden and Ross over a video game wager.  Officer Curry explained to reporters that Holden had robbed Ross and was subsequently charged for robbery.  Holden is now being held in the Winnfield City Jail on one count each of armed robbery, first-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  He’s previously been arrested for drug possession, forceful rape, second degree kidnapping, and multiple counts of aggravated battery with a weapon.

Lil Snupe’s tragic murder is part of the larger issue of rising gun violence in Winnfield.  In 2010 the city’s crime rate swelled  to nearly triple the national average, and the city’s police department has struggled to temper it ever since.

Meek Mill recently paid tribute to his slain recruit with a video for their song “Nobody,” which featured clips of their most memorable moments together.

Ross’ funeral is scheduled for Saturday, 11 am in Jonesboro-Hodge High School in Louisiana.
