Pharrell defends the use of his brand claiming his use of ‘I am’ is completely different than Will.i.am’s use. Pharrell has written to the judge asking for written consent to continue using “ I am Other” trademark.

According to TMZ, Pharrell claimed that will.i.am is twisting the use of ‘I am’ around and referenced Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs & Ham to show example of how similar statements can be used and viewed differently:

” Sam I am/ I am Sam/ I am Sam/ Sam I am”

Pharrell furthered his explanation clarifying his use of the ‘I am’ trademark stating,

In contrast, the ‘i am Other’ mark means ‘I am something else,’ leaving what that ‘else’ is to the imagination of the consumer. It certainly does not mean ‘I am Will.’”

Will.i.am has yet to make a statement on Pharrell’s legal action.
