3. New Jet City
Curren$y
(JLR)
Even for Curren$y, the historically significant Jet Life Recordings pilot, New Jet City is a superb piece of work. Collecting mainstream features while managing to stray away from traditional southern radio, Curren$y mixed the smooth listening of The Stoned Immaculate with the aggressive, take-no-prisoners flow of Pilot Talk 2. Mixing it up with Juicy J, French Montana, Trinidad James, Rick Ross and Lloyd, don’t let Curren$y’s bevy of popular guest appearances fool you. The wordsmith focused on keeping pace with solely himself, and if his last album traded raw grittiness for polished songwriting, New Jet City is vetoing. David Stern style.
