Well, the elephant in the room is clearly the A Tribe Called Quest, I mean, Ronnie Foster sample employed to perfection behind J. Cole’s serene instrumental. As Kendrick softly introduces himself during the song’s intro, then impactfully on the chorus, its clear to see why this beat was perfect for a Born Sinner standout. Boasting two of Cole’s better verses on his sophomore album, you can’t help but let your walk home morph into a little two-step down the block in the July sun when “Forbidden Fruit” is on, so kudos to Cole for providing himself with one of the more enjoyable backdrops on this album…for himself.
