The former New England Patriots tight end is due in court today at 2pm in what seems like a simple formality.

It has not been an ideal offseason for the New England Patriots. Aaron Hernandez is not their problem anymore but he is still a nuisance for the NFL. Today at 2pm ET in Attleboro, Massachusetts, a probable cause hearing will commence against him for last month’s death of Odin Lloyd. Much of this ordeal and the months that this case will eat up undoubtedly cast an ominous cloud over the public relations machine that is the National Football League.

At this point, second and third homicide charges have come to light as prosecutors have begun making the case to a Suffolk County grand jury that Aaron Hernandez should be charged in the death of two men whom he shot to death. Two law enforcement officials who have been acquainted with this case vouch for the charges. According to the Boston Globe, the prosecution may file for a continuance which will lead to them seeking an indictment at a later date.

Since Hernandez pled not guilty to the first degree murder charge, beginning with today’s hearing, the investigation focuses on the murder of the two Cape Verdean immigrants Safiro Furtado and Daniel Abreu. The Boston Police Department believes they’ve made a strong connection between Aaron Hernandez and the unfortunate incident that occurred July 16th, 2012. The hearings are held behind closed doors in order for details to be withheld from the public. Further information on the charges will not be released until later today, if there is no continuance.

Investigators believe Hernandez murdered Lloyd at a park in Attleboro because Lloyd had information on the deaths of Furtado and Abreu and he feared he would talk. Two others in association with Hernandez and last month’s murder are in police custody.

Stay tuned for more.
