On a personal note, Late Registration is my favorite Kanye West album, and any debate I get into where my opposition is arguing the contrary, I always point to “Gone” to prove my point. You’d be hard pressed to find very many Kanye West verses, or songs, better than “Gone,” evidently as it comes in at number 6. Even though Cam’ron and Consequence turned in some of the better performances of their careers, it was still Kanye who shined the brightest, especially during his last verse, spotlighting his rise to fame, “Before model chicks was bending over/Or, dealerships asked me ‘Benz or Rover’, man/If I could just get one beat on Hova/We could get up off this cheap ass sofa.”
