I’m pretty sure that we’re all familiar with the infamous story of the legendary Ike & Tina Turner, from the 1993 biopic What’s Love Got To Do With It.
Tina, was from a small Tennessee town of Nutbush. As a teen, she relocated to St. Louis, to reunite with her mother and sister- it was there that she met the charismatic bandleader Ike. Shortly after meeting, Ike begins to mentor Tina about the music business, in which an unexpected love interest develops. The couple eventually marries and share’s much musical success as the “Ike and Tina” duo.
Unfortunately behind the glitz and glam of the stage, Tina endured many years of abuse while married to Ike, as he would mentally and physically dominate her. After 14 years of marriage, Tina couldn’t put up with Ike’s abuse and chronic drug addiction any longer, and in 1978 their divorce was finalized. She left the marriage empty handed with only one request, which was to simply keep her stage name- Tina Turner.
Fast-forward 35 years….
At the age of 73, Tina was able to finally tie the knot with her true love of 27 years, German music producer Edwin Bach. Instead of the average all white wedding gown, Tina looked stunning in her black and green Giorgio Armani dress! Tina talked to Hello! Magazine about how she found her dress, stating that she was at a catwalk show in Beijing, and “thought, ‘I gotta have that, even if I never wear it. Then I thought, ‘I know, that will be my wedding dress!’’ Tina looked absolutely stunning, as the dress was embellished with Swarovski crystals.
Celeb friends Oprah Winfrey and Gayle King, were also in attendance, excited to watch Tina gloat in a world of true happiness.
There isn’t a time limit when it comes to finding your true soul mate. Everything happens in it’s own time. Tina is finally in a peaceful place, calling this stage in her life “nirvana”. She deserves it!
