It’s been reported by multiple sources, that a white van exploded  in the Flatiron District of Manhattan.

The fire, which appeared to form underneath the truck’s hood, shot fire and thick black and gray smoke into the air. There were originally claims of an explosion but that has not yet been confirmed. At the time of the accident, the truck was between the Flatiron Building and Madison Square Park.

Police Officer Douglas Alston, told one reporter on the scene that the driver of the van escaped before the truck was engulfed in flames, however other officers said that there were injuries from smoke inhalation were sustained.

Further details of the accident, including the source of the fire  and confirmed injuries, are unclear as of now. NYPD and the FDNY have extinguished the fire and are currently at the scene gathering more information.
