Fan says banana throw was not racially motivated

Unfortunately racism still exists in the real world and in the sporting world. The act of throwing a banana at black athletes has strictly been occurring in European football, but now it has worked its way over to the NHL and MLB. During a road trip to San Francisco, Baltimore Orioles’ All-Star outfielder Adam Jones tweeted that a banana was thrown at him during the 9th inning Sunday night.

This was Jones’ tweet Sunday night,”I want to thank whatever slapd— threw that banana towards my direction in CF in the last inning. Way to show ur class u jacka–.” Jones went had 1 HR and 4 RBIs in the contest.

Now a man by the name of Alexander Poulides has stepped up to the plate and apologized for his actions. Poulides told Mercury News on several occasions that he did not mean to throw the banana at Jones and that it was not racially motivated. Why he threw the banana in the first place is because the Giants are currently struggling and on that particular Sunday the Orioles spanked them 10-2. Ultimately he threw the banana on the field out of frustration.

Before Monday’s game in Arizona, Jones had this to say to reporters;

“It’s unfortunate that things happen like that, but it ain’t going stop me, myself and the Orioles. We have games to win. It’s mid-August. I’ve got a bigger concern in my head than someone’s ignorance or act of whatever. You know what I mean?”

Seeing that this is a rare situation in baseball there is a good chance this was a freak accident, on the other hand we will never know if Poulides did it on purpose. In conclusion you shouldn’t be throwing stuff on to the field regardless of the circumstances.
