Another oddly named but dope group nonetheless, FatKidsBrotha is the moniker taken up by brothers Johnny and Dave. What their name means is beyond me: is their older or younger brother suffering from weight issues? Why are they airing out his personal problem? Where is the space between the words? Whatever the case may be, they create some interesting music that can be earthy and soulful at times, while at other moments, become strange forays into the world of industrial music. Their latest project—Eastside Paradise—displays both of the emcees talents as rhymers, while maintaining an air of mystery and intrigue.
FatKidsBrotha can claim some of the darkest songs in Two-9’s catalog. If you want proof of this turn on “NWA,” a slow, menacing, creepy track that takes listeners into the minds of Jonny and Dave.
However, they are not restricted to this opaque vibe. Their mixtape is filled with layered synthesizers that create an almost leaned atmosphere. Like the rest of the crew, trap style is incorporated, but not dominant. Instead, you can hear a definite Houston and West Coast influence in FatKidsBrotha sound.
FatKidsBrotha are planning to drop their next mixtape, the sequel to Eastside Paradise, soon. Right now it has a September release date. Jonny and Dave have been getting better and better, so their next project has some serious potential.
