Alright. I’ve been listening to your music for at least a few years now and I feel like one of the strongest moments that I remember in your career so far is when you decided to freestyle over other rapper’s beats and that trend has been on the decline over the last five years. Was that something you did for fun or was there a bigger purpose?
It started as like a learning process for me, just learning music because a lot songs that I was rapping on I had never heard of before. Like Ice Cube “Wicked,” that’s like anybody that loves any Hip-Hop music knows that song and I didn’t know it. Growing up, Rap music wasn’t allowed in my house so it’s like damn now that I’m into and a part of it, now I’m learning stuff and hearing new songs. People were like, “Everybody know this song.” But for me it was just like I got on my manager and he was like, “I’m gonna show you some old joints and you should rap on them,” you know what I’m saying, just to improve myself as a rapper-taking different flows from different people’s stuff just trying to get better. But a lot of them, you know, was just like let me see if I can get on somebody’s song and do better than he did.
Right and that just kinda goes along with your whole image of like competitor, like you’re out here to be number one, no messing around.
Exactly, you know, it’s just that statement. I belong on that stage and deserve to be there and here’s why.
And talking about that competitive spirit, I’m guessing you’re a Redskins fan.
Nope I’m not a Redskins fan.
Oh okay, so what are you repping?
My team is the Philadelphia Eagles. It’s kinda stupid how I became an Eagles fan. I used to be a Sixers fan. I was a big Allen Iverson fan. Like I used to cut up them socks and put them on my arm like when I was little. I just liked anything Philly, so when I got into football I was automatically a Eagles fan.
Last question that I gotta leave off with is Miley Cyrus, good or bad for Hip-Hop? Or you couldn’t care less?
Aw man, I mean, it’s not like it’s a door that closed on Hip-Hop. Like if she really love Hip-Hop music and she wanna make it then I’m all for it. Like right now for me it seem like she’s just trying to make a scene so she can break out of the whole Disney thing. She just doing wild sh*t just so people won’t look at her that way no more. But I mean I’m all for people doing what they wanna do.
So we can’t expect a Miley Cyrus Phil Ade collab?
I’m all about making good music so if we can come out with something good I’ll do it. I don’t close my door to anybody. I just try to make the best music that I can possibly make.
