Last night at New York City’s Gramercy Theater, Rick Ross and company took the stage to perform a medley of new music from Self Made 3 along with some of Rick Ross’ classics, backed by a live band. Before he hit the stage, there was an introductory live set from Funkmaster Flex.
In the midst of Self Made 3’s release, Rick Ross launched MMG TV, which, as its inaugural act, would stream three live showsfrom the three main members of Maybach Music Group (Ross, Meek Mill, Wale) at the same time on the internet. The tactic served as quirky and clever on Ross’ part, especially considering one of the shows, Wale’s co-headlining What Dreams May Come Tour, wouldn’t be passing through New York City, but the real focus was on the Gramercy Theater stage last night, where, just after 10pm, donning an all-white velour suit and two gaudy number “3” chains dangling on his excessively tattooed chest, Rick Ross and his hypeman got into “No Games”, the Future (who wasn’t present last night) assisted new lead single from Ross’ oft-delayed but much talked about and anticipated Mastermind album.
From start to finish Ross was the master of ceremonies. Despite temporary moments of unfamiliarity with the music being performed, as Self-Made 3 had only been out a few hours when the “Box Chevy” rapper took the stage, the energy was high and Ross was aggressive. Noticeably staying away from his smoother, more radio-ready singles “Touch’N You, Magnificent)”, Ross blended “I’m A Star” and the Cee-lo Green Assisted “Tears of Joy.”
After some time, he brought out Stalley and Rockie Fresh on stage to perform a few of their tracks.
Overall, Ross put on an energy-filled show.
