Pirates capture first postseason win in over two decades
21-years of waiting have finally ended. The Pittsburgh Pirates have picked up not only their first playoff berth this year but now they have picked up their first playoff win since 1992.
Dressed in all black the Pirates faithful showed up in force for this special event. They made their presence felt early by heckling Cincinnati Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto with chants of “Cue-to, Cue-to.” While the Reds think Cueto’s problems were mechanical it was clear the crowd got to his head. Cueto dropped the ball off the mound prior to giving up a home run to Russell Martin.
With Francisco Liriano dominating the plate the Pirates earned the right to challenge NL Central rival St. Louis Cardinals in the next round. The first game of the NLDS between the Pirates and Cardinals will be Thursday evening at 5’oclock on TBS.
The Cleveland Indians and Tampa Bay Rays will face off in the American League Wild Card game tonight at 8’oclock. The winner of that game will play the Boston Red Sox in the ALDS.
