5. Queen of the Ring Do Or Die
This Saturday at a boxing gym in Brownsville, the ladies of the battle world got it on at what turned out to be the female battle world’s equivalent of Summer Madness. Battle Rap stars like T-Rex, Swave Sevah and O-Red were in attendance to watch the female MC’s square up. None of the battles that night could be considered below par but the most memorable ones by far were the clash between Official and Lexx Banko and Young Gattas and Chayna Ashley. In particular Gattas vs Chayna Ashley had the feel of classic female Grindtime battle, with each contender having to come hard to win over the crowd’s attention. There was less gloss then you’d find at a modern URL event with all the aggression and excitement. Between this event, the female KOTD battle that dropped this week and the expectation-exceeding female SM3 battle between Jaz and Ms. Hustle, female battle rap seems poised to reach new heights in the near future.
