4. T-Rex Vs. Calicoe
This battle seemed to be the exception to the “Bars Over Name” theme that was haphazardly tacked on to the Summer Madness 3 card. Without a doubt, in the world of URL Rex and Cal and big names, and as Rex mentioned in his first round, 3-year members of the Summer Madness club. Calicoe was somewhat quiet this year while Rex was visible as always. Rex was arguably the favorite, as he tends to be because of his vet status, while Cal’s Summer Madness 2 scars from his battle with Lux are still healing. This battle served as a perfect example of how much battle rap can surprise. You can never be sure something will or will not happen, that someone will or will not win. Rex was coming off a bad battle Dizaster. There were murmurings he was getting lazy and that Cal hasn’t been the same since Lux. In the end, Cal’s performance will probably wind up being remembered as runner up for best performance of SM3 (just behind Ill Will.) His first round was a killer. He petered off at the end of his second and flatlined at the end of his third, after the crowd refused to hear any to socio/political bars. In the end, there was just something special about Calicoe’s performance. It had nuance, swag and aggression in all the right places.
