On the heels of October 15th, which is when Get Home Safely literally hits stores (or, Best Buy at least) and the internet, Dom Kennedy‘s doing a little more press than usual. We don’t blame him. Get Home Safely was supposed to be released in the summer, but the hot 2013 months passed without so much as an official single from the “My Type Of Party” rapper. Attempting to escape the pigeonhole he’s been placed in, Dom’s dropping at a time when the weather is consistently 65 degrees and the sky is overcast. It’s “untimely” according to fans of his recent releases (The Yellow Album, From The Westside With Love II, The Original Dom Kennedy), all of which were released between the months of March and June, but Kennedy is eager to see how fans will receive his first album in over a year (not counting the OPM compilation, Young Nation Vol. 1). He discusses the balance he tries to keep between doing what he loves and contributing to the corporate side of being a musician, his enthusiasm for his hometown, and the experience of meeting, hanging out with, and possibly signing with Rick Ross.
