Nip can’t help it. The likenesses are almost predetermined. He’s a West Coast rapper with Crip affiliations and the customary California cool. The sound and lingo on records are extremely reminiscent of a young Snoop, with Nipsey’s cadence, vocal tone, and vernacular being a call back to Snoops early recordings. He even looks like Snoop, with the tall, lanky build and cornrows. He’s not the first rapper with that background to bear a sonic and physical resemblance to the Doggfather (we see you Knoc’turn-al) but in Neighborhood Nip’s case, it’s played in his favor. His sound fills a void that has been missing since the Death Row days and his recent successes, most notably selling over 1,000 copies of his mixtape Crenshaw for $100 a pop, show that the new wrinkles he’s added to the tried, true, and blue Cali motif are resonating with fans.
