K Michelle Tour Art

As a first-timer listening to K. Michelle live, the experience from beginning to end was similar to what I called “group therapy.” I found myself in a theater packed of women with waist-length weaves to natural twists; wearing everything from sexy bandage dresses and thigh-high boots to simple jeans and a tee. Well, what DID we all have in common? We were at the Rebellious Soul Tour, having a group experience, woman-to-woman about life, love, sex and the situations everyone has found themselves in, but may be shy to admit to. Everyone could relate to the lyrics and sentiments being belted out from each of the tour’s singers.  A few male bashing moments for the sake of female empowerment is okay just this once, right?

Good.

Michelle, the Love & Hip Hop star who performed on the Music Matters stage at the 2013 BET Experience, released her first studio album, Rebellious Soul, in August. The lead single “V.S.O.P.,” debuted at No. 1 on the Hip Hop/R&B charts and No. 2 on the Billboard albums chart.

From “0 F*cks Given” to “Can’t Raise A Man,” everyone in the audience has had not-so-awesome experiences with relationships to relate to these songs with and from the sing-a-longs in the crowd, listening in was indeed a release and appropriate healing session for seemingly much of the audience. The feeling of “woosah” was thick in the air.

I am now empowered to battle all B.S I may encounter this work week.

Thank you, K. Michelle.
