Kanye is not happy

During his Yeezus tour stop in Phoenix last night, Kanye West did the inevitable, and addressed the lack of Grammy nominations for his critically acclaimed Yeezus album, which only garnered two nominations (Rap Album of the Year, Best Rap Solo Performance) when the full list was released last week. Ye made the point that his grand sum of 21 Grammys won makes him second to no one in that category at the ripe old age of 36, before delving into the fact that he’s “never won one against a white person” and despite landing at either number one or number two one every prominent year-end list, the Grammys found it appropriate to belittle his 2013. Following an indirect threat to damage the Grammy’s credibility, Yeezys returned to serene form, reminding the crowd (and himself) that he’s only about positive energy. At this point, Kanye shouldn’t be surprised about any Grammy snub he receives. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Watch The Throne have been heralded as two of Kanye’s best and most significant works, even considering his extremely healthy catalog, and neither album was nominated for a significant amount of Grammy awards. So, Yeezus, West’s most confrontational and nails-on-chalkboard piece of art yet, certainly wouldn’t be forcing any of the voters hands considering his recent history with the foundation. The Yeezy Grammy rant begins at about the 9:53 mark.
