Mac Miller’s 2011 debut, Blue Slide Park, was commercially successful but didn’t sit well with hoards of critics and fans alike. It was a significant departure from his critically acclaimed K.I.D.S. & BDE sound, and people took notice. 2 years later, whilst achieving commercial success (WMWTSO sold over 100,000 copies in its first week on the shelves) Mac made a true return to form, blending his vacillating flows and manic rhymes with emotionally charged instrumentals and playful drum patterns. Using the time allotted on his sophomore LP to speak on damaged relationships, lost friends, but still f*ck around with hologram sexcapades and drugs, WMWTSO may be the truest painting of this Pittsburgh kid’s talent to date.
