Last year, two of Florida’s Hip-Hop public figures, DJ EFN and Garcia, released their documentary on making the trek to their homeland of Cuba for the first time. Both artists have directed and produced music videos for other rappers such as Mayday!, Ras Kass, Gunplay, Tech N9ne, and N.O.R.E. So of course, while they were there, they filmed a music video for the title track of the documentary in Havana.
Aside from filming the video, DJ EFN and Garcia connected with a lot of the local talent such as Danay Suarez, Kokino, Doble Filo, Humertico, Escuadron Patriota and Silvito el Libre. There’s a reason that the documentary was named Best Documentary at the People’s Film Festival in New York of 2013. Below, we have an outtake from an interview with M1 of Dead Prez. He retells the trouble he had trying to get into Cuba the first time through the Bahamas, as well as being exposed to a new culture when he finally got through.
