Adrien Broner and his friend/mentor Floyd Mayweather have a few things in common. Â They both have a super confident attitude and a very showy persona, and up until Broner’s fight with Marcos Maidana they both were undefeated. Â Maidana shocked everyone when he not only defeated Broner but had two knockdowns and near knockout.
In an interview with Showtime Sports, Broner took the Mayweather comparison even further as he explains what happened during the Maidana fight.

On what happened vs Maidana
âListen, I know what went wrong for me. God had that plan already. It donât matter if I had Jesus in my corner. God had that plan. We canât stop His plan.â
On anything technical
âWhat I need to tell everybody that isnât inside that squared circle, sometimes when you get hit with good shots, itâs some shots you just donât see. Youâre gonna get hit with big shots. But at the end of the day, man, you know, weâre ready to go back to camp. Weâre ready for the rematch. If we couldâve fought him on Sunday (the day after the fight), we wouldâve fought him on Sunday.â
On whether itâs wise to go for the immediate rematch
âIâm a fighter. If I go on, I know I can beat anybody. If I (do something else), then what they say? âOh, at least Maidana beat him.â Iâm the closest thing to Floyd Mayweather, so since I took my loss, everybody feel like Floyd Mayweather took a loss.â
âBecause Iâm the closest thing to him. And still to this day Iâm the closest thing to him. We gonna be OK. My next fight, I hope I fight Maidana, but if I donât, itâs OK.â
While I get what he’s saying Broner definitely isn’t on Mayweather’s level yet. Â Also Broner needs to learn one more thing from his mentor, while he does party and have fun, Mayweather is super serious about his training and never slacks when it comes to a fight.
