dunk-contest-2014 I won’t waste anytime, the NBA 2014 Sprite Slam Dunk Competition sucked! And I’m being nice, I can honestly say I’ve have had more fun watching the layup lines at a middle school basketball game, and I’m sure everyone knows those kids hardly make any of those shots.

Not to take any thing away from the contestants and their dunks, but I guess I’m actually still doing that. Nonetheless, the change in format was just plain weird. Yeah, I was a bit intrigued by the initial freestyle round, but I quickly found out I just wasted time watching something that ended rather quickly.

I guess the NBA was hoping to bring some excitement to with this East versus West thing, but while they got a C for effort, they failed miserably in execution. There’s was a point in time where I didn’t realize if it was over not or not. And for me, the highlight of the competition was the commentary, hearing Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith compare Shaq sitting idle in the middle to the defense he played his last 2 years in the league, now that was priceless. I swore the dunk contest was suppose to be the marquee event? I guess the NBA didn’t get that memo.

After the dunk contestants names were announced I was so intrigued. I mean what lineup Mclemore,Ross,Barnes,Lilliard,Wall, & George. Then much to my dismay I realize the format has changed and for the absolute worst. The contestants did not get a chance to showcase their best dunks. They seemed as confused as I was. The format completely drained the excitement and creativity from the competion it seemed. I really hope a return to the traditional format. If it ain’t broken , don’t fix it. Well congrats the dunk contest is now broken. The most exciting participants I’ve seen in a long time and the NBA butchers the event. I will say I enjoyed the shooting stars and the skills competion. I’d like to see the 3pt contest go back to traditional form as well as the dunk contest.
