The comedic film is inspired by Rodman’s so-called “hoops diplomacy” mission to North Korea, as a directing vehicle for Tim Story, who just directed the comedic hit, Ride Along. Story is fielding countless film offers in the wake of the success of Ride Along, which has earned $123M domestically. He is onboard for a sequel that will re-team Kevin Hart and Ice Cube.

The Diplomats is described as a two-hander, in the vein of Naked Gun, that takes its cues from the antics of the eccentric former NBA player. Meanwhile, the North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, has also provided the comedic backdrop for another comedy, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s upcoming The Interview at Sony Pictures.
