Florida’s hip-hop duo M-1 and stic.man are DeadPrez
arguably the most militant MCs in the rap game. Their debut album opens with “Wolves,” a speech from activist Omali Yeshitlea.  The simple, but profound, parable of the wolf (imperialist) makes one wonder how and who created crack.

With an assist on production from Headrush on “They Schools,” the revolutionary MCs stress the importance of education, but most importantly they stress education that touches on issues that affect blacks like poverty and how to stop police brutally.

They wouldn’t be revolutionary if they didn’t go in on police. The Headrush-produced track “Police State,” DP accuses the government of being oppressive and controlling political and economic life.

And, the tear-jerking “Behind Enemy Lines,” is a story of political prisoners and criminals who are serving long jail sentences. DP shows the everyday struggle that many blacks have trying to stay out of the jail system.

They even bash journalist on the Lord Jamar-produced track,“Propaganda,” stic and M-1 go in on mass communicators for “spreading lies to our children.”

What makes Lets Get Free special is the fact that DP do more than offer militant-like rants, they offer solutions.

The do-for-self-minded MCs would’ve made perfect teachers at Mississippi Freedom Schools, Black Liberation Schools or any African American History class.
