No doubt you’ve heard Aloe Blacc’s smash hit “The Man” accompanying athletes like Colin Kapernick, Kevin Garnett and Richard Sherman as a part of Beats Audio’s “Hear What You Want” promotional campaign. And probably, unbeknownst to you, you’ve heard Aloe setting the tone for HBO’s tragically cut short How To Make It In America by singing the show’s theme.

Now you can put a face to the soulful voice as Aloe has released the official video for “The Man” just days before the release of his major label debut LP, Lift Your Spirit.

The Orange County native evokes the spirit of the late, great Marvin Gaye in the new visual and spoke to Vh1 about the video’s inspiration.

“This music video is an amalgamation of historic images that remind me of moments in time where there was struggle and triumph,” Blacc said of the video’s motif.

Blacc even recreates the legend’s classic What’s Going On album cover in one of the video’s scenes, draped in Gaye’s signature trench coat.

“The scene that you guys may have seen was me standing on the corner in the same position and wardrobe as Marvin Gaye was in on the cover of What’s Going On,” Blacc divulged. “But around me is the social calamity that was happening at the time of the album.”

Check out the video below and pre-order Lift Your Spirit here before it hits stores March 11th.
