This singer has always been vocal about her upbringing and how she was born during the Civil Rights Movement. She is multiracial as her mother is of Irish descent and her father is of African American & Venezuelan descent. Growing up for her was rough because all of the kids in school used to picked on her because of her race and as she got older, she was able to accept herself for who she was. Throughout the years, she loved who she was and tells girls that they should embrace who they are.
