Would you agree with the notion that your daily intake if food supply’s your body with all the vitamins and minerals that are needed? If you do, then I beg to differ. Whether you are a meat eater or vegan, vitamin supplementation is very important to your general overall health and well-being. Eating a variety of nutritious foods daily is a great thing but your body still may be lacking in vital nutrients. When you think of your health it is also important to take about your vitamin regimen. If you are unsure of which vitamin and mineral deficiencies you have, you can visit your doctor. Your healthcare professional can run micronutrient blood tests to determine whether you have deficiencies or access.

Once you’ve determined what your vitamin regimen needs to include then you can begin to shop around for what you need. The important thing to keep in mind when shopping for vitamin and mineral supplements is to read the label. Make sure that the supplement that you are picking is not full of fillers. Fillers can be anything from substances that make the manufacturing process easier for companies to artificial colors. Ultimately, they are ingredients that are added that are unnecessary with regard to their purpose. Two weeks ago I wrote about genetically modified foods (click the link to go to the article), it is also important to note that genetically modified ingredients can be found in vitamin supplements.

The best option when purchasing vitamin and mineral supplements is to purchase whole food ones. I personally use raw based whole food supplements from Garden of Life. In raw based supplements the ingredients are not heated enabling the nutrients to remain intact and inhibit toxins from forming. Synthetic supplements due to the chemical compounds utilized can potentially create issues due to the human body lack of an ability to recognize them. These types of supplements can prove to have unexpected reactions in the body as well.

When choosing your supplements:
1. Research the company that you are looking to purchase from.

2. See what type of ingredients they utilize in their formulas.

3. Find out the companies production process.

4. Determine if any of the ingredients are genetically modified.

There are plenty of sites and that offer additional informationthat can help you to better understand and clarify any questions that you may have concerning supplements. In no way does vitamin and mineral supplementation replace a healthy diet. It is however, meant to work in conjunction with your diet to assist you in meeting all of your body’s needs.
