Before Ye stepped in

Rick Ross‘ 5th #1 album, Mastermind, hasn’t produced nearly as many radio hits as we’re accustomed to hearing from the Miami native, but “Sanctified”, the DJ Mustard & Kanye West-produced, Big Sean & Kanye West-featured song that finds its home on Ross’ latest album is an inescapable hit. Everything from hilarious spoof videos, to the feel-good Betty Wright sample in the intro, to Ross, Big Sean & Kanye West performing the song together on Arsenio, make apparent that “Sanctified” is most definitely the one off this album.

Still, Mustard, who co-produced the song along with Kanye, reveals that it originally wasn’t supposed to sound like that. The original beat, which he concocted on his own, was much faster paced, and contained a hint of Mustard’s signature bay sound, as opposed to Kanye’s signature sample-laden, bass-heavy production style. Watch the video below, and tell us which instrumental you would’ve preferred.
