Are you used to looking down at your skin and seeing ashy skin? Do you see it so often that you think it is a normal? Well, I am here to tell you that your skin lacking moisture is not a good thing. It can cause your skin to itch, turn red, and become patchy or flaky.
Dry skin is common and can happen to anyone at any point in time. It is also good to consult a dermatologist to determine the source of the dry skin and possible treatments. Determining if your dry skin originated from a disease or other health problem is also important. I know that many of us do not think that dry skin can be that serious, but in all actuality, it can be.
Hydration of dry skin is imperative to assisting with the treatment of this condition. Below are some tips to help you hydrate your skin.

1. Drink plenty of water.
2. Get adequate rest nightly.
3. Moisturize your skin liberally and frequently throughout the day.
4. Monitor your daily activities and determine the ones that strip the moisture from your skin.
5. If you use your hands a great deal in your job (ex: dish washer, car washer, etc.) wear gloves or other protective type of gear where applicable.
6. Increase your intake of water dense fruits and vegetables
7. Take a good look at your bath soap to determine if it is drying your skin out.
8. Use warm water while bathing because hot water removes your skins natural oils quicker.
9. After bathing do not dry off. Moisturize the skin so that the moisture becomes locked in.
10. Use a humidifier within your home to keep the air moist.

In cases where you skin is extremely dry, your healthcare professional can prescribe medication that can be applied to your skin. Even though dry skin can sometimes appear as a pesky annoyance, it can also be a sign of bigger issues. The skin is your body’s biggest organ and taking care of it is imperative to your overall health.
