The Cleveland Cavaliers fired Mike Brown as head coach today. Brown and the Cavaliers finished this season with a 33-49 record and were tenth in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. Hired at the end of last season, Brown was in his second stint as Head Coach of the Cavaliers, having previously coached them from 2005-2010.

“This is a very tough business,” Cavaliers team owner Dan Gilbert said in a released statement. “It pains all of us here that we needed to make the difficult decision of releasing Mike Brown. Mike worked hard over this last season to move our team in the right direction. Although, there was some progress from our finish over the few prior seasons, we believe we need to head in a different direction. We wish Mike and his family nothing but the best.”

Mike Brown’s lifetime record with the Cleveland Cavaliers was 305-187. Of note, he coached the team to  the NBA Finals in 2007 against the San Antonio Spurs. They were swept by the Spurs in four games.
