Happy rapper, Pharrell Williams has been on the receiving end of some unhappy feedback as of late. On the July issue of fashion magazine, ELLE, the VA producer, singer and rapper donned a Native American headdress. The headdress vexed many ELLE readers so much that they’ve turned to Facebook to express their unhappy feelings with the #NOTHAPPY hashtag.

According to Dailymail.com, a Facebook user said, “The headdress is sacred, it was worn by those who were revered and chosen to lead the people. It’s not meant to be a fancy headdress for trendsetting.”

Another FB user, Eric Garcia compared Skateboard P’s headdress to a warbonnet. ‘The warbonnet is equivalent to the Medal of Honor,’ he wrote. ‘Would you appreciate it if a foreign nation had photos of people with that medal on?’

Although Pharrell has been catching heat for rocking the headdress, it wasn’t his decision to rock the Native American regalia. But it’s unclear as whose idea it was, even after ELLE’s UK website issued this statement.

“[W]e persuaded ELLE Style Award winner Pharrell to trade his Vivienne Westwood mountie hat for a Native American feather headdress in his best ever shoot.”

Pharrell issued this apology: “I respect and honor every kind of race, background and culture,” he said. “I am genuinely sorry.”
