As of today, the Cleveland Cavaliers organization have officially come to verbal agreements for David Blatt to be the newest coach. He will replace former coach Mike Brown who lasted a very short time with the team.

Now who is David Blatt you ask?

David Blatt, 55, is a long tenured coach who has 20+ years in Europe that includes time spent in: Russia, Israel, Greece and Turkey. He was the focal point in leading a Maccabi Tel Aviv team to the Euroleague championship this past season. Under Coach Pete Carril tutelage at Princeton, Blatt will be no stranger to running a Princeton offense. Coach Blatt is signed to a three-year deal with a fourth-year team option, worth as much as $20 million according to sources.

Now with the draft less than a week away, this type of shake-up in Cleveland could be a plus for a team trying to land No. 1 draft picks in Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker or potentially LeBron James in the future. It will be interesting to see how David Blatt’s European coaching philosophy pans out here in the states.
