Whichever team drafted former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel knew what they were getting.  In addition to his special skills at the QB position, comes his partying and heavy media scrutiny.  Since the Cleveland Browns selected Manziel with the 22nd pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, the watch of the media has kicked up a notch.  Everyone is waiting to see if Manziel will slow down or maybe go into obscurity until the season starts but that’s not his nature and he says he’s not changing; “I don’t think I’m doing anything wrong.”

“I’m not going to change for anybody,” Manziel said Friday, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.  “I’m going to enjoy my time off.”

Most recently Manziel was seen partying in Vegas for Memorial Weekend, in Houston for Houston Appreciation Weekend with good friend Drake and several other hot spots.  His so called hard partying has even drawn criticism from Hall of Famer, Emmitt Smith.

“That lifestyle is going to be a short lifestyle — a short career lifestyle — if he continues that…As we used to say, you can’t keep burning the candle at both ends of the stick. The candle gets small fairly quick. So, Johnny is going to have to figure it out….Hopefully he’s not doing anything to hurt himself outside of drinking, which is going to harm his body and harm his performance anyway, but at the end of the day, he’s going to have to learn to manage those things.”

Manziel is not the first athlete to hit the party scene and he certainly won’t be the last.  Until he takes a few NFL snaps and fails, everyone should hold off on the criticism.  For now his coach Mike Pettine is not worried and Manziel assures everyone he has his head in the game and will be ready when his time comes.
