Led by entrepreneur Kevin “Pills” Montano, New York City’s Stage 48 held one of the most talked about events in Latin music culture; the Latin Mixx DJ Choice Awards. Held this past Thursday, key Latin figures showed up to nominate and award some of the best DJs from across the country. Dominican music legends like Johnny Ventura were found in the audience doing the Bachata with friends and family while urban DJs like John “Jellybean” Benitez who is best known for his work with Madonna, were also present in the audience. Latinas like Erica Mena and Emily B graced the stage as presenters for many of the awards, while The Source Magazine’s own Londell McMillian was there to represent the fusion of Latin culture and Hip Hop.

The Source Magazine talked exclusively with Emily B about what the awards meant to her; as well as with the winner of  the night’s “Best Down South DJ” award, DJ Smiley Miami.
