Even though Radio Raheem is a character portrayed by Bill Nunn in Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing, there are so many similarities between the deaths of Eric Garner, the 44 year old gentle giant from Staten Island and Radio Raheem, the silent, boom box carrying regular in his Bed Stuy neighborhood, that it just could no longer be ignored.

Spike Lee has posted an eye opening video clip via his YouTube channel that shows the cellphone video that has went viral of the 44 year old asthmatic’s death at the hands of police in comparison to the movie where Nunn’s character who was also choked to death by the NYPD. Even though the Spike Lee joint was made an entire quarter century before this tragic event last week, its sadly prophetic and an all too common occurrence during the summer in many cities across the country.
