Team ain’t gotta be nice, going home is the thing now

Kevin Durant is coming off the best/most disappointing season of his career–the NBA scoring champ took home his first MVP award this past June, but his Thunder fell short of the NBA Finals for the second consecutive year–but he’s continued to profess his love for three things: Oklahoma City, his coach Scott Brooks, and his teammates.  Will that be enough however, to keep Kevin Durant from a very enticing opportunity in Washington in 2016? He’d be playing alongside yet another one of the league’s best point guards (John Wall), and a more than capable supporting cast (Bradley Beal, Al Harrington, Otto Porter, Kevin Seraphin).  What could also be waiting for him in Washington, which isn’t necessarily the case currently in Oklahoma City, is a menacing front-court, consisting of Nene and Martin Gortat.  The intangibles are pretty obvious: return home to your beloved DMV, and bring a title home while playing in a conference that’s significantly less stacked than the one he’s currently playing in, especially with the paradigm shift the LeBron move caused.

In a short interview while at Team USA practice facilities, Durant was asked about the possibility of suiting up for the Wizards and he had this to say.

We’re going to put it out on the table. It’s been talked about. Everybody is asking me about it. Every time I go on Instagram or Twitter, all my friends ask me about it. So I’m not going to sit here and act like I’m naïve to the fact that people think about that stuff. But I just tell everybody, ‘Look, I’m here in Oklahoma City. I love it here.’ Who knows what’ll happen? You never can close a door on anything, but I like where I’m at right now. I can’t answer those questions.

Winning a championship in blue-and-orange would probably change how Durant feels by the time 2016 comes, but like everything else in stores, we’ll have to wait and see.
