Placing a value on music, and art for that matter, is completely subjective and therefore a futile task. That’s not to say that you can’t put your own value on it. But who’s to say who’s right? The music industry’s confused attempts to find the best marketing schemes tries to combat bootlegs and free downloads that consumers always seem to find online. One artist who is shaking all of this up, for the better, is North London’s Little Simz. The 20 year old just dropped a four track EP with a press run smaller than the window of time you have of buying Supreme gear online. But no one can deny that the music isn’t as strong as some of the heavy hitters out right now.

In the words of Little Simz:

“So the whole point of doing this mini-EP was basically… there is no point.
I feel like when you always try and justify something or there always has to be a purpose to something, it kinda loses everything.

Sometimes I like to be spontaneous, sometimes I like to do things out of the extraordinary, sometimes I don’t like to think about what I do and I just like to do it. I simply just cant get enough of making music, I can’t get enough of putting out music and just giving my friends something new.”

Simz exhibits her usual quick flows and runs through a flurry of topics on each track, more than usual, but that’s all part of the spontaneity of this project, right? Sonically, the EP plays out like the whole journey of a cosmonaut on a space ship, from take off to landing. Besides being extra benevolent to her fans with new music, the EP is also a formal introduction to Simz’ new imprint, AGE 101. The current roster consists of herself and producer OTG. Judging by the title of the EP, this will be the first of more “surprise” EPs and we’re totally okay with that. You can download AGE 101: DROP 1 at her Bandcamp.
